The Mestre Tower

This is another sign of the Mayor and the entire Administration's strong commitment to the mainland city, states the Councilor for Heritage Management, who continues: This important project, overseen by the Culture Department of the City of Venice, will allow, thanks to the collaboration with the Pro Loco Mestre Association and the work of its volunteers, to keep one of the city's iconic sites permanently open to the public. This is a small, yet significant contribution to the valorization of Venice and its many unique Venetian expressions.

This initiative," explains the Councilor for Tourism, "is fully part of the process of tourism and cultural development on the mainland that we have been implementing since we took office. From today, the many tourists staying in Mestre will have an additional attraction at their disposal, an ancient place where they can begin their exploration of the contemporary city.

The Instalations

The exhibition project was designed to offer residents, schools, and tourists a variety of historical and contemporary information, presented on 11 panels in Italian and English, for a first introduction to the city.

Inside the Tower, information on cultural activities and events, as well as the main tourist attractions, will be available.

The upper floors, accessible via an external wooden staircase, house the series of panels relating to the exhibition on the history and evolution of the City of Mestre. A visit to these three floors allows for a complete view of the tower's interior, with the various structures associated with its subsequent inclusion in the walled city (the tower was pre-existing), including the passageways of the patrol walkway and more.

Finally, on the third floor, it is possible to see the new electronic mechanism of the two clocks. A distinctive feature of the external dials is their diversity: the one on the north wall has Roman numerals, while the one on the south, made of internally illuminated glass panels, features Arabic numerals.

From here, you can enjoy a view of the adjacent square, as well as a large satellite image of the city and a looping presentation of hundreds of photographs projected onto the wall.

The Tower finally ends on an external terrace, not accessible to the public, located above the fourth floor. This terrace houses the bronze bell that, until two decades ago, struck the hours and half-hours via a mechanical mechanism connected to the clocks.
